This at home family sunrise session taken in Red Bluff, California is the perfect way to update family portraits!

I do a lot more portrait sessions in the evening because that seems to work the best for the majority of my clients. I equally enjoy shooting a family sunrise session as well! Sometimes this is a good idea with young children because there is no interference with bedtime.

I met at this family’s home, and we utilized their big open field and rusty fence posts to get some gorgeous western style portraiture. I always inquire as to how my clients will use the images, because this can change the way that the images are taken. If you know me at all, you know that I am constantly encouraging my clients to print their images and put them to good use!

These images were destined for wall art and home decor. I love the balance between candid and classic when it comes to a well rounded family portrait session.

This family just got a new puppy, which made such an adorable addition to the shoot!

Tips to prepare for your family sunrise session
- Lay out your clothes the night before-plan outfits
- Get plenty of sleep-If you are naturally a night owl, it may be beneficial to train yourself to get to bed earlier a few weeks before your session.
- Drink water-before you go to bed, and in the morning after waking up. This will help your skin look more awake and vibrant on camera!
- Avoid hurrying-wake up with enough time to get ready without the rush. A high stress environment can affect the mood of the shoot.
